Global Trainee Program
If you are a natural leader that wants to build your professional career focusing on a broad perspective of global business strategy, this program is perfect for you.
Trainees will get hands-on experience to enhance their business skills: including project management, change management, and digital transformation. During their program, Trainees will work on important multidisciplinary projects for Vale, which will help them develop key leadership behaviours. By providing job rotations, this program allows recent graduates to gain a fulsome and integrated view of the business.
Education Requirement
- Graduates from all areas of study who have graduated between May 2019 – 2022

Specialist Program
If you are a collaborative individual who is passionate about building your technical skillset with an aspiration to become a future leader in your area of expertise, then this is your path!
Throughout the program, Specialists will learn and enhance their technical knowledge and expertise. They will have opportunities to apply theory towards solving problems and developing solutions through on-the-job experience. Specialists will work on significant technical projects pertaining to Vale and the mining industry.
Education Requirement
- Graduates with educational backgrounds in Engineering and Geology, who have graduated between May 2019–2022.
Program Duration
- 12 – 48 months depending on previous relevant experience

FAQ
1. How do I qualify for the Global Trainee Program?
Candidates from all areas of studies, who have graduated between May 2019 to 2022 are qualified to apply to the Global Trainee Program.
2. How do I qualify for the Specialist Program?
Candidates with backgrounds in Engineering and Geology, who have graduated between May 2019 to 2022 are qualified to apply to the Specialist Program.
3. What’s the difference between the Global Trainee Program and Specialist Program?
The Global Trainee Program is targeted towards new grads looking to gain a full scope of the business and to become a leader whereas the Specialist Program aims to build technical leaders who may specialize in an area.
4. What does the application and interview process look like?
You must complete an application form about yourself, your studies, and your working preferences. This will be followed by an evaluation process, which includes completing a quiz and solving business cases. If you are selected to move on, you will be invited to an interview with the HR team and hiring managers. Please see the selection process above.
5. When do the applications open and close for the New Graduate Programs?
Applications open on September 10, 2021 and close on October 26, 2021 at 12:00 a.m EST.
6. When will I know the status of my application?
Applicants will receive updates about the status of their application throughout the recruitment process. Successful candidates will be notified in December 2021 and will start with the company in May 2022.
7. How long are the New Graduate Programs?
The duration of the Global Trainee Program is 18 months, starting in May 2022. The duration of the Specialist Program is between 12 to 48 months, starting in May 2022. The variation is based on the candidate’s previous experience and pathway.
8. What will I be doing in this program?
Employees in the Global Trainee and Specialist Programs will participate in various job rotations. In some cases, they may have an opportunity to complete a rotation in a different department aligned with their interests and development needs. In addition, employees will get involved in various activities and projects to develop key leadership behaviours and technical skills.
9. Is this a full-time position?
Yes, Global Trainees and Specialists are required to work full-time.
10. Is this a paid program?
Yes, Vale offers a market-competitive salary to all Global Trainees and Specialists.
11. How has the work arrangements changed due to the pandemic?
Positions which allow for remote work can be done from home. Some positions require on-site work. Vale has strict protocols in place to ensure everyone’s health and safety, including COVID-19 protocols.
12. Can I apply to more than one program?
No, candidates can only apply to one program. However, candidates can indicate if they’d like to be considered for the other program in their application.
13. I have an engineering degree. Would my experience in the Global Trainee or Specialist Program count towards my P. Eng.?
Yes, it counts towards your P. Eng.
