Here at TJX Canada, we strive our hardest to make sure that, every day, our customers are able to find the latest and greatest designer brand names for less than they'd pay elsewhere. When they walk through the doors of our stores, whether it's a Winners, HomeSense, or Marshalls, savvy shoppers know they'll experience the "Thrill of the Find," which, if you're curious, feels like a slight breeze blowing over the surface of your skin-not a bad feeling, if we do say so ourselves.

But you're not here to feel the breeze. You're here to see if working with TJX Canada is right for you. To help with your decision, we'd like to introduce you to someone who once faced the same choice you have to make.

Meet Luka.

Luka is one of our Merchandise Planning Allocation & Analysis Co-ops. This department is responsible for functions relating to the budgeting, reporting, and management of the organization's sales and inventory. We designed this co-op role specifically for post-secondary students like Luka. He came to us with a sincere passion for all four of our Merchandise Planning Allocation & Analysis divisions: 1). Planning & Allocation 2). Business Development & Store Planning 3). Merchandise Planning & Analysis and 4). Merchandise Flow.

We didn't learn until later on that he has an unhealthy obsession with collecting superhero action figures

This is Luka. He is one of us.

If you do decide to apply for this position, and we agree that this is the right job for you, you'll be supported by a plethora of internal programs whose only focus is the continued progress of your career. At TJX Canada, we do everything we can to help you achieve your full potential. But we can't do it all ourselves. You'll need to bring the ambition, the motivation, and the drive.

So what do you think? Like Luka, are you one of us?

Now, if you were to come on board as one of our Merchandise Planning Allocation & Analysis Co-ops, we'd assign you to one of these four areas below and ask you to do the following based on your placement:

Planning & Allocation

  • Create an optimal product mix at department/category/store level through interpretation of numerical/demographic/market data as well as reporting and ad-hoc analysis.
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives relating to the product assortment. Analyze results and make recommendations based on findings.

Business Development & Store Planning

  • Uncover merchandise opportunities and partner with store operations to develop action plans and maximize opportunities in specific stores, groups of stores, or targeted geographic areas.
  • Support store operations within the region and liaise between store operations and our four divisions.

Merchandise Planning & Analysis

  • Interface with other departments to streamline and make efficient use of corporate information.
  • Create reports, business analysis, ad-hoc analysis and data pulls; co-ordinate technologies, synthesize data from disparate sources, and translate findings into actionable information.

Merchandise Flow

  • Provide support and assistance in a liaison role between distribution centers, logistics, planning, and allocation by coordinating the resolution of production issues and problems.
  • Compile, analyze, and monitor information in support of on-going Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls distribution centers production; develop and prepare reports; interface with internal departments and distribution centers.

Sounds rather challenging and exciting, right? Let's hope so, because if it sounds easy or boring, there's a good chance this job isn't for you. But if it does sound right for you, here's why we know you'll be able to handle those challenges:

  • You are pursuing a post-secondary degree; experience in a retail or corporate environment considered an asset.
  • You have strong analytical skills and the ability to understand and interpret qualitative and quantitative data to aid in effective decision making.
  • You have an interest in working with merchandise (products) and a basic understanding of how key factors, such as brand, fashion, quality, and price impact consumer buying behavior.
  • You have strong problem-solving skills.
  • You demonstrate intermediate computer skills including MS Excel, MS Word and e-mail.
  • You have superior interpersonal abilities to perform effectively in a collaborative and team-oriented environment, where partnering with others and building strong working relationships are critical.
  • You have the flexibility to adapt to the changing needs and priorities of the business.
  • You demonstrate strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize, and re-prioritize under changing circumstances, to ensure commitments are met.
  • You demonstrate expert verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization.

We know some of that might sound a little daunting, but if we're going to meet and exceed our promises to our customers, we have to be committed to hiring the best person for the job.
