Position Summary:

Reporting to the Patient Care Manager  you will be responsible for providing excellent care to a diverse patient population with the challenge of our multi-service environment. Level 1 (PACU) and Level 11 (SDS) recovery in a busy surgical program.   You will provide high quality nursing care to patients and their families, based on the philosophy and conceptual framework of Nursing of The Scarborough Hospital.  The successful candidate is required to be on standby.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BCLS
  • Physical Assessment Course
  • Coronary Care 1 and 2 or equivalent (i.e. ICU Certificate)
  • PACU/SDS skills set
  • 2-5 years recent PACU experience  and/or Same Day/Pre-admit expereince to patients of all ages (including children)
  • PACU Certificate or willingness to complete certification from accredited Educational Institution
  • Proven excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated excellent problem-solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated excellent team building skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to function both independently and as a multidisciplinary team member in a fast paced demanding environment
  • Demonstrates values consistent with TSH’s Code of Conduct and is committed to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
  • Utilize protective equipment provided and identify and reports hazards
  • Engages in ethical conduct and strives to understand and appreciate the diversity of our patient/staff population and community
  • Excellent work performance and attendance record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Baccalaureate degree
  • Ability to speak another language
  • PACU Course
  • ACLS Certification
  • Willingness to complete Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) certification in Peri-Anaesthesia nursing within 2 years
  • Current experience in outpatient/day surgery setting
