Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Program
At the City of Toronto, the Toronto Water Division has created the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) program to harness the talent of bright minds and to provide specific Toronto Water engineering experience to recent graduates. The ultimate goal is for Toronto Water to create a pool of highly qualified Engineers with Toronto Water specific knowledge while at the same time helping new graduates obtain their PEO required work experience.
The program includes quarterly reviews to ensure that an EIT program participant is "on the right track" in meeting the Professional Engineers Ontario licensing requirements.
Following successful completion of the program, there is a six-month period from the contract end-date for the employee to find a Professional Engineering position (temporary or permanent), within a City division.
In an effort to reach graduates from schools with well-established engineering programs, the Toronto Water Division will promote the EIT Program and provide promotional materials to co-op coordinators/employment services at various Universities across Ontario. The next intake will be in 2017.
For more information on the Toronto Water EIT Program, contact Ian Kennedy, People Services Consultant, firstname.lastname@example.org.
