Position: Editorial Assistant

Location: CTV Edmonton, Alberta

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience

Hours of Work: Part-time hours as required, availability on weekends and evenings is required

 

Under the direction of the Director, News & Public Affairs and Managing Editor, while working closely with Reporters, Anchors and Producers, this position would be best suited for a well-organized individual with excellent writing skills and an excellent ability to adhere to deadlines.

 

Responsibilities:     

  • Providing editorial support to Anchors, Reporters, and Producers
  • Writing for newscasts, digital and features or program segments with minimal direction and supervision
  • Adapting to rapidly changing programme situations
  • Adhering to tight deadlines, responsible for having news items written and work with editors for final cut

 

Qualifications:         

  • Graduate of a Post Secondary Television Broadcast Program
  • Demonstrated ability to write to pictures an asset
  • Experience in broadcast news writing essential
  • Good knowledge of industry practices and procedures regarding news production and writing
  • Excellent research, analytical and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of legislation governing libel  
  • Strong creative abilities and leadership skills
  • Strong editorial sense, thoroughness and accuracy                            
  • Ability to deal with multiple demands and pressure of on-air deadlines and corollary need to make immediate and sound decisions
  • Knowledge of the history, geography, and challenges facing the region is desirable

 

Bilingualism is an asset (English and French); adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
