Bader College (Queen’s University, Canada) is committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment that is fair, positive, and supportive for all members of our community.

Bader College supports the fair treatment and opportunity for all by asserting the importance of non-discriminatory treatment either directly or indirectly on the ground of age, disability, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.

The Vice-Provost’s Advisory Committee on Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) is a committee composed of up to 15 members representing four stakeholder groups at Bader College, namely; faculty, staff, Student Services and students. The Committee will build upon directives from Queen’s University, Canada, to ensure the promotion of relevant policies, protocols and processes at Bader College.

The Committee will advise and support Bader College senior management in the areas of indigenization, equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility and anti-racism with actionable recommendations that are appropriate to the location, which includes a Grade I listed building, and with due consideration to budgetary and operational requirements.

All documents pertaining to meetings of the Committee, including minutes, are available to the Bader College community to ensure transparency.

Indigenization:  A process or action that focusses on incorporating Indigenous knowledge into approaches in recognition of their value and importance. Bader College will draw attention to inhumane, colonizing, and oppressive treatment that nation states and the international community has perpetrated on Indigenous populations.

Equity: Substantive fairness for everyone thereby ensuring that members of equity-seeking groups are able to achieve full participation in the university (Bader College).

Diversity: The representation of the population with respect to designated groups. It means respect for and appreciation of differences in ethnicity, gender, age, national origin, ability, sexual orientation, faith, socio-economic status and class, but it also includes differences in life experiences, learning and working styles and personality types that can be engaged to achieve excellence at Bader College.

Inclusion: The climate and acceptance of differences that comes with diversity (i.e. different ways of living and working).

Anti-Racism: An active process of identifying and counteracting racism by changing systems, organizational structures, policies, practices, and attitudes so that power is redistributed.

Accessibility: A general term for the degree of ease that something (e.g., a device, service, physical environment and information) can be accessed, used and enjoyed by persons with disabilities. The term implies conscious planning, design and/or effort at Bader College to make sure something is barrier-free to persons with disabilities.
