Position Summary

Assists clients with mental, developmental and/or physical disabilities to live successfully in the community by providing a variety of day to day physical, emotional and social supports, life skills assistance, information, resources and demonstrations. Performs duties in accordance with Northern Health guidelines, policies and procedures and works within the guidelines of the Forensic Commission.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of the Provincial Home Support certificate training or equivalent combination of education and experience recognized by employer.
  • Minimum Grade 12 education.
  • One year recent related experience dealing with clients with mental illness.
  • Familiarity with local community resources.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and is able to use own vehicle to transport clients.
  • Food Safety courses, First Aid, and CPR preferred.
  • Full Criminal Record check required.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to interact effectively with client population.
  • Ability to teach selfcare and selfhelp skills.
  • Physical ability to perform duties of the job.
