The following student position(s) is/are a part of IBM Canada's EPIC (Employment Pathways to Interns & Co-ops) Student Program. This/These position(s) is/are only open to students registered in a Canadian University or College program, who have completed a minimum of 2 years of their degree or diploma program, and who must be returning to full-time study upon the completion of the temporary IBM work term.

This Student Position resides in Markham and is a 16 month work term commencing May 2015.

Position Summary and Responsibilities for the Technical Services Professional:

Employees in this role will execute technical procedures across multiple customer environments that manage primary and secondary controls in security and compliance within a customer's IT infrastructure. The successful candidates will work with a variety of operating systems, tools and management applications to ensure an audit ready compliance posture for IBM and our Clients

Responsibilities may also include design, documentation, testing, creation or modification of processes and/or tools for users or system design specifications. Candidates will draw upon technical skills and knowledge to drive improvements. Collaboration and team work will be essential the success of any potential employee. Works on professional level projects and interacts with multiple departments and multiple Management levels. Candidates will be working in customer production environments and will adhere to processes and guidelines or governance in supporting availability of computer systems to the clients.

Skills:

  • Experience with Windows, Linux or Unix Operating Systems
  • Experience with writing and following technical procedures an asset.
  • Demonstrates working in Teams with multiple work locations.
  • Demonstrates written and verbal communications skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products such as Word, Power Point and Excel.
  • Scripting Skills would be an asset but not a requirement.
  • Base understanding of IT Security Concepts.
  • Base understanding of Project Management concepts.
  • Coop or Internship program enrollment an asset.

Problem Solving:

Recognizes job-related problems and independently generates solutions based on analytical skills, experience, and creativity. Challenges the validity of given procedures and processes with intent to enhance and improve or develop alternative solutions. Investigates first and second level problems in a small to medium project or segment of a larger project to provide recommendations and solutions. Provides specialized input into the implementation of service enhancements to prevent problems from recurring.

Impact on Business/Scope:

Contributes to team results. Understands the mission of the professional group, and applies specialized knowledge in performing project related activities including generating technical solutions. Where applicable, accountable for audit compliance and implement and maintain the business recovery plans and procedures for major systems based on IBM and client requirements. Assists in leading roll-outs of new business initiatives and proposals. Makes recommendations to IBM and clients regarding industry best practices.
